North Lone Pine Trail

Description:
The North Lone Pine Trail begins at a trailhead on the Deadman Road about three miles from the end of the Red Feather Lakes Road. It starts at an elevation of 9,340 feet and gently climbs to 10,700 feet in about 4.7 miles. Here it intersects the Elkhorn Baldy Road (a narrow jeep road). The trail is well marked with tree slashes. The first couple of miles follows North Lone Pine Creek, crossing it three times via wooden bridges. It intersects a logging road after leaving the creek. Most of the trail winds through lodgepole pine and spruce forest. There is a large rock outcrop at about three miles that provides a good view to the east and south. It is a short distance from the end of the trail to the southern base of Middle Bald Mountain. From here you get a spectacular view of the mountains in the Rawah Wilderness. A little farther west on the road you will reach the south end of the Killpecker Trail. This trail is of low to moderate difficulty to hike.
