Sheep Creek Cutoff Trail

Description:

The Sheep Creek Cutoff Trail connects a logging road near the Browns Lake Ttrailhead with the Zimmerman trail in the Comanche Peak Wilderness. The logging road is immediately past the Browns Lake trainhead on the Crown Point Road. Turn right and travel two miles to the start of the trail on the left side of the road. There is very little parking available. The trail steadily descends from 10,220 feet to 9,700 feet at the Zimmerman Trail. It levels off somewhat after about .5 miles and travels through a series of open meadows. From the end of the largest meadow it continues downhill through a narrow grassy strip to the Zimmerman Trail. You'll get beautiful views of the mountains in the Rawah Wilderness from here. Turn left on the Zimmerman Trail to get to Sheep Creek Meadows, a beautiful grass covered meadow. The streams in this meadow are greenback cutthroat trout recovery waters. No camping or fire building is allowed within 200 feet of any lake, stream, or trail. The trail is of moderate difficulty to hike.
