Description:
Long
Lake is the largest lake in the Indian Peaks Wilderness. This long narrow
lake contains populations of rainbow, brook, and cutthroat trout. Fishing
access is relatively easy all along its shore. Some sections may be quite
wet, requiring boots or waders. Fishing is permitted with artificial flies
and lures only. No camping is allowed. This lake is heavily fished.

Long
Lake is located in the Indian Peaks Wilderness and can be reached via the Pawnee
Pass and Jean Luning Trails. Take Highway 72 north from Nederland for approximately
eight miles to Ward. Turn west on Forest Road 112 and travel about five miles
to the Brainard Lake Recreation Area and the Long Lake Trailhead. From the Long
Lake Trailhead take the Pawnee Pass Trail around the north side of the lake
and the Jean Luning Trail around the south side of the lake. It can also be
reached by hiking a trail across the road from the Niwot Mountain picnic area
on Brainard Lake.
