Poudre River

Description:
The Cache la Poudre River begins in Rocky Mountain National Park and ends near Greeley where is flows into the South Platte River. It is the only officially designated wild and scenic river in Colorado. The best fishing is found from its origin to the mouth of Poudre Canyon. The Poudre River contains four species of trout as well as some Mountain Whitefish and Suckers. Three sections of the river are designated artificial flies and lures only. Access to the river in Poudre Canyon is relatively easy. Thus fishing pressure can be high.

Directions:

Take Highway 287 north from Fort Collins to Highway 14. Turn west on 14 and follow the highway into Poudre Canyon. The river follows the highway for about 50 miles to the Big South Trail. It then turns south away from the highway along the Big South Trail.
